What's In It For You

Augment

Product Story

Research supports that variety and movement at work is beneficial to our health, and we know that people who feel better are able to work better. The Augment height-adjustable desking system makes moving between sitting and standing an intuitive and natural behavior. A holistic and modular system defined by crisp lines, accommodating both sitting and standing working postures, Augment brings a new level of individual choice to shared work environments. The portfolio includes both freestanding and cluster configurations, allowing greater flexibility when designing large floor plans.

Augment

Feel Better. Work Better.

The average worker spends eight hours a day at their desk, and research shows that many of us sit more than we sleep. Height-adjustable furniture can reduce sitting time by up to 60 percent, giving great health benefits by a simple change of posture. Augment’s ease of adjustability promotes movement at work and the flexibility to vary your posture throughout the day, which ergonomists agree counteracts the negative health effects of staying in any one posture for too long. We know that people who feel better are able to work better.

Creating a Better Work Environment

The Augment portfolio includes freestanding and cluster configurations, and options are available with linear, corner, and 120-degree modules. Freestanding desks can be used with Arras Spines to create flexible Living Office clubhouse settings, or simply used in enclosed rooms to create a haven.

Augment

Intelligent Control. Effortless Adjustments.

Augment is available with two types of height adjustment: electric or crank. The electric version is built with Intelligent Control (IC) which is a signature sensor that detects movement and objects under or above the work surface. Built with an advanced “anti-collision” chip, the sensor will prompt a rebound if it detects an object below or above the surface. The speed of adjustment slows as the table reaches its lowest or highest adjustable height range, which is called the “Slower Speed Zone,” ensuring a safe, smooth, and quiet sit-to-stand adjustment.

Durable. Sustainable. Successful.

Herman Miller continues to focus on maintaining high environmental standards by incorporating sustainable materials, features, and manufacturing processes. One of our design tenets is durability. We design for repeated use, repair, maintenance, and reassembly by using standard parts as often as possible. Augment can be taken apart and recycled.

Design Story

In this day and age, great value and productivity comes from creative thinking and new ideas. Herman Miller’s Research and Development Group in Asia-Pacific have designed Augment to allow a new level of individual choice in shared work environments. Advanced technology, connectivity, and smart devices allow us the freedom and flexibility for our tools to follow and support our creative thinking, and now Augment gives us the same freedom and flexibility with our preferred working postures.

An alternative to sitting down to work is woven into our design history. In the 1960s, both Robert Propst and George Nelson pioneered the concept of alternative working positions. Propst designed a hybrid of a stool and chair he termed a “perch,” and Nelson, who enjoyed standing around at work and thought others might also, designed a stand-up, roll-top desk. Both designers realized the benefits of standing while working, long before the term “ergonomics” was widely understood.
